Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Plague Map (“we”, “us”) handles information when you visit https://plaguemap.online.
Plague Map is an independent public information project. It maps selected plague-related reports with sources and status labels. It is not a public health authority and does not provide medical advice.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the site:
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, and timestamps generated when your browser requests pages or the map API.
- Cookies and similar storage — a locale cookie, a theme preference if you change it, and session cookies if you sign in. Essential cookies keep the site working. Analytics cookies are used only if we enable an analytics provider in site settings.
- Account information — if you create an account, we store the name and email address you provide, plus authentication records needed to keep you signed in.
- Email — if you write to us or subscribe to updates, we keep the address and message you send so we can reply.
- Map interaction — page views of published reports. We do not ask for your location to place a pin, and map pins are not derived from visitor addresses.
We do not collect health records from you. Published map entries come from public reporting and official sources, not from users submitting personal medical data.
How we use information
- To operate, secure, and improve plaguemap.online, including the map and source table.
- To respond to questions sent to support@plaguemap.online.
- To send transactional or update emails you asked for, and to stop them when you unsubscribe.
- To detect abuse, spam, or attempts to disrupt the service.
- To comply with law where we are required to do so.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use map pages to build advertising profiles.
Data sharing
We may share information only with:
- Hosting, email, and infrastructure providers that run the website for us, under contracts that limit how they use the data.
- Authorities when the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users from harm.
Map content (locations, status labels, and source links) is published on the site by design. That published record is not personal data about site visitors.
Cookies
You can block non-essential cookies in your browser. If you disable essential cookies, sign-in and language settings may not work.
Retention
We keep account and support emails for as long as the account or conversation is active, then for a limited period needed for security and legal records. Server logs are kept for a short operational window unless we must retain them longer to investigate abuse.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Contact support@plaguemap.online to make a request. If you have an account, you can also update basic profile details in account settings.
International transfers
The site may be hosted on servers outside your country. If we transfer personal information, we do so only as needed to operate plaguemap.online.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page will change when we do. Material changes will be posted on plaguemap.online.
